SUMMARY:Festival Week
DESCRIPTION:Dornoch Festival Week is held every August following the Highland Games\, offering a packed programme of family activities! \nOffering a week-long programme designed to bring locals and visitors together\, the Festival Week is held annually in the week following the historic Dornoch Highland Gathering. The festival transforms the town into a hub of activity with events ranging from traditional competitions to modern family fun. Whether you are a regular visitor or discovering Dornoch for the first time\, the festival provides a warm Highland welcome and a perfect way to experience the town’s unique charm. \nFamily Favourites. The week is traditionally packed with classic events that have become local legends. Look out for the Sandcastle Competition on the golden sands of Dornoch beach\, the always-popular Pet Show\, and the high-energy Teddy Bears’ Picnic for our younger guests. \nCommunity Challenges. Put your skills to the test in the Car Treasure Hunt\, or join a team for the Family Quiz Night. For those who enjoy a bit of deduction\, the ‘Window Spotting’ competition around the town’s shop windows is a must-do activity for all ages. \nThe Great Duck Race. One of the festival’s most anticipated highlights\, the Duck Race sees hundreds of yellow rubber ducks “racing” down the burn from Station Square to the masonic hall. It’s a firm favourite for spectators lining the route. \nActive & Social Events. From children’s football and sports days to the Kids’ Highland Games\, there are plenty of ways to stay active. As the sun sets\, the festival often features live music\, bingo nights\, and the legendary End of Festival Party to close the week in style. \nPlease note: The full 2026 programme is currently being finalised. Check back soon for specific dates and event times\, or follow the Festival’s Facebook page.

SUMMARY:Dornoch Gatherings: Charlie McKerron and Friends feat. Ross Ainslie\, Marc Clement and Cailean McKerron
DESCRIPTION:Capercaillie and Session A9 fiddle player\, Charlie Mckerron has been playing with Marc Clement for over 20 years\, and after playing with Ross Ainslie at various sessions Charlie asked him to join the group around 10 years ago. The group will also be joined by Charlie’s son Cailean who is an accomplished pianist\, fiddler and singer who has recently joined the band Skipinnish. \nCharlie explains\, “the combination of the guitar and piano styles of Cailean and Clement are electric and can only inspire and make you want to play!” \nThe musicians bring a world music backdrop to many of Mckerron’s compositions\, which he likes to feature in his tours. Ross Ainslie’s introduction to the outfit has been a great development. “His piping and whistle skills plus his love of contemporary\, traditionally based composition is right up my street” says Charlie. \nThis combo likes to continually push and challenge each other. There is a musicial soulfulness\, the fury of the up tempo madness and incredible improvisiation making every night a different experience. “I love the improvisation thrown in\, there is freedom within the music”\, comments Ross Ainslie. \nCharlie\, an award-winning composer\, is at the moment working on his solo CD\, which features some of the music from this line-up\, as well as contributions from other Celtic and World musicians. “These intimate gigs are the perfect way to introduce some of our new music”\, says Charlie. \nYou can expect a night of amazing music and entertainment from these award-winning musicians. Their virtuosity and the sheer joy of performing together will always shine. \n“A joyous evening of virtuoso musicianship …” Edinburgh Music Review \n“… played with emphatic vigour and precision” The Scotsman \nBUY TICKETS
