Northern Skies: Stargazing & Aurora Experience

Join us at Dornoch Station for an unforgettable evening under the Highland skies, guided by Andrew from Scotland’s Night Sky.

The night begins with warming snacks and hot drinks at Dornoch Station, before Andrew shares his expert insights into the wonders above. From there, we’ll take to Dornoch Beach, where you can capture the beauty of the night sky with your own camera under Andrew’s guidance. Telescopes will also be on hand for an even closer look at the stars and constellations.

What should I bring?

Please wrap up warm and wear appropriate footwear.

  • Bring a head torch to help navigate the beach in the dark.
  • Bring your own camera for photography (please note we cannot accept responsibility for any damage).
  • Feel free to bring a flask or drinks with you.
  • Ensure you bring along any medication you may need during the evening.

What happens if the weather doesn’t allow us to go outside?

In case of inclement weather, Andrew will host the event indoors at Dornoch Station, delivering a series of engaging talks:

  • General Night Sky Presentation – An overview of the night sky in Scotland, with images and insights (1hr 30 mins)
  • Astrophotography: Camera settings, techniques, and live editing of night sky images
  • Northern Lights: In-depth knowledge and forecasting for aurora sightings in Scotland
  • Stargazing: Exploring telescopes, binoculars, and naked-eye viewing of the night sky
