Festival Week
Dornoch Festival Week is held every August following the Highland Games, offering a packed programme of family activities!
Offering a week-long programme designed to bring locals and visitors together, the Festival Week is held annually in the week following the historic Dornoch Highland Gathering. The festival transforms the town into a hub of activity with events ranging from traditional competitions to modern family fun. Whether you are a regular visitor or discovering Dornoch for the first time, the festival provides a warm Highland welcome and a perfect way to experience the town’s unique charm.
Family Favourites. The week is traditionally packed with classic events that have become local legends. Look out for the Sandcastle Competition on the golden sands of Dornoch beach, the always-popular Pet Show, and the high-energy Teddy Bears’ Picnic for our younger guests.
Community Challenges. Put your skills to the test in the Car Treasure Hunt, or join a team for the Family Quiz Night. For those who enjoy a bit of deduction, the ‘Window Spotting’ competition around the town’s shop windows is a must-do activity for all ages.
The Great Duck Race. One of the festival’s most anticipated highlights, the Duck Race sees hundreds of yellow rubber ducks “racing” down the burn from Station Square to the masonic hall. It’s a firm favourite for spectators lining the route.
Active & Social Events. From children’s football and sports days to the Kids’ Highland Games, there are plenty of ways to stay active. As the sun sets, the festival often features live music, bingo nights, and the legendary End of Festival Party to close the week in style.
Please note: The full 2026 programme is currently being finalised. Check back soon for specific dates and event times, or follow the Festival’s Facebook page.
