In 1577, 31 people were accused of witchcraft in Easter Ross, with several being tortured and executed. This talk explores the story behind one of the earliest major witch-hunts in the Highlands, and the people caught up in it.
Local historian Jason Ubych will look at the events surrounding the trials, the accusations and the characters at the heart of the story, including Lady Fowlis and Coinneach Odhar, the man later associated with the Brahan Seer.
Jason is Manager of Tain & District Museum and has a particular interest in the history and folklore of Easter Ross. Expect a fascinating evening of local history, strange stories and a darker side to the place we know today.
This talk will be held at The Carnegie Courthouse, Dornoch, with a bar available for the evening.
